A visit from the Vet.

As part of our topic about caring for animals, we have been thinking about what rights pets have and how we should look after them. We were lucky enough to receive a visit from our local vet and veterinary nurse in Hythe.  They brought a very large dog called Simba and some tiny four week old kittens to see us too. We listened to Simba's heartbeat using a stethoscope, and also felt his heart beating with our hands.

We were very gentle with the kittens.

Simba enjoyed being groomed........46 times!

We found out why vets need to wear gowns and masks, and enjoyed trying them on ourselves.

We learned such a lot from our visit and are very grateful to the team from Hythe vets for giving up their time.

Could these children be future vets?

 Sport Relief Day.
The children had great fun today, as they took part in an It's A Knockout farm style challenge!

The 'sheep shearing' station was enjoyed by all the children.........

 ..............and some bigger kids too!

Some children got messier than others!

They had to search for eggs.................

................and deliver them safely to the egg boxes.

They tried their hands at 'milking'. Collecting the milk in a bottle  was rather tricky!

Followed by a challenging obstacle course.

Then finally, a game of welly wanging.  What a fantastic day!
We would like to say a big thank you to all our parents, who generously donated old clothes and money to  Sport Relief.

Science day-making butter.

We talked about how we might make butter using some cream and the equipment we have in school.

We voted on the method we thought would be the quickest.
 Then we stirred.....
 Whisked........
 And shook. Until......
The buttermilk separated from the butter mixture.  The electric mixer was the quickest method.

We had made butter.  Hooray!
Then we ate it on crackers.  Delicious!

Here's an explanation of how we did it.

Our day at the farm.

We had a busy day at the farm! We fed all sorts of animals, big and small. We found out a lot about farm animals and their babies, and how to look after them.  We were surprised to find out that a baby rabbit is called a kitten! Our teachers were very proud of our good behaviour on the day. We were very lucky to have so many lovely mummies helping us too!
