It's the Summer term! Welcome back.
It was lovely to welcome everyone back after the Easter break. The children were delighted to find a beautiful new pirate ship in their playground! They have been enjoying playing exciting role play games on it this week.We also have a new mud kitchen, in which the children can bake mud pies and other delicious culinary creations! Anyone fancy a cupcake? The PTA very kindly bought the waterproof suits for us. Unfortunately, they don't fit the teachers.
It's been a busy week. Our 'growing' topic began when we found a very large seed packet containing large seeds and a tiny packet filled with tiny seeds. There were no pictures on the packets, so we had no idea what kind of seeds they were. We decided to plant them. Some children planted big seeds and some small. The children predicted what they thought their seed will grow into. We wondered if the biggest seeds will grow into the tallest plants? We shall soon find out!
The children tried their hands at still life drawing. They used pastel crayons and looked very carefully at the patterns and shades of colour on the vegetables. The resulting pictures were very impressive and are on display in the classrooms.
We continued to explore colour in Outdoor Adventure this week. The children were challenged to find at least 6 leaves that were different shades of green. Then they arranged them in order from lightest to darkest. It wasn't as easy as it sounds!
Guided reading groups began this week. The children will develop their reading skills as they not only decode words, but also begin to answer questions about the story and characters.
Reading together is fun!
What a busy week!
