Christmas presents for the birds.

This week, we have been thinking about celebrations and Jesus's birthday.  We thought about why we give gifts and how happy giving makes us feel. We decided to make some Christmas presents for the birds who live in our woods.  We had great fun making bird feeders and hanging them from the trees.

Handa's Surprise.

The children have enjoyed reading Handa's Surprise, and finding out more about what life might be like for children elsewhere in the world.  This week, everyone got involved in some drama, as the children re-enacted the story.

Afterwards, the children enjoyed trying the exotic fruits featured in the story.

Meanwhile, in Forest School this week, we read the story Stanley's Stick, all about a little boy who imagined his stick was a lot of different exciting things to play with.  The children then turned their sticks into all kinds of things-from unicorns to dinosaurs!

We're going on a bear hunt!

We returned back to school to find that Big Ted had gone missing! We decided to go on a bear hunt to find him.

We made maps to help us and we packed a basket of things we might need for our journey.

Then we set off............................................................

Through the long grass.  Swishy swashy!

Through the river.  Splash splosh!

 Through the mud.  Squelch squirch!

Through the snowstorm.  Woooo hoooo!

Into the forest.  Stumble trip!

And there we found  Big Ted!

We were delighted to find him safe and sound.

We're not going on a bear hunt again!

Muddy paint and stick pencils.

This week in forest school, we made our own paint from mud and water and used sticks to draw forest pictures.

Children in need.

The children enjoyed dressing up on Children in need day, and making Pudsey crafts. We had a surprise visitor in the afternoon!

A big thank you for all the donations we received for this very worthy charity.

Happy birthday to Big Ted!

In RE this week, we have been thinking about celebrations.  With Big Ted's birthday coming up, it was the ideal opportunity to think about how we all celebrate our birthdays and what makes the day so special.

We collected leaves to decorate party hats.

 We designed birthday cakes.

We made cards and gifts for Big Ted and then we had a party!

A lovely end to the children's first half term in school!
